This transformative entryway renovation in Montvale, NJ, redefines curb appeal, blending timeless elegance with thoughtful functionality. Designed to complement the home’s classic red brick architecture, the project centers around a grand courtyard that bridges the home and its surrounding landscape, creating a harmonious connection between the two. This new design instills a true sense of arrival, welcoming guests with an atmosphere of sophistication and charm.
The courtyard design reflects the home’s architectural style while incorporating modern functionality. The Unilock Arcana pavers in Corvara, framed by a custom bluestone border, create a striking focal point, while a seamless connector to the front steps enhances the grandeur of the entry. Walkways constructed with 4” x 8” clay brick pavers in a running bond pattern lead visitors gracefully through the space. The linear nature of the running bond provides direction, literally pulling guests toward the courtyard, while transitioning into a French Parquet pattern on a diagonal for added visual interest.
To echo the home’s aesthetic, the materials were thoughtfully selected—clay brick was chosen for its alignment with the home’s red brick facade, achieving a nearly identical match to maintain harmony. A small accent piece at the walkway’s intersection with the driveway introduces a half-circle detail, inviting guests into the courtyard. As they approach, the design shifts to limestone 2x2 rectangles set at a 45-degree angle, a formal pattern that accentuates the limestone threads and landing leading to the front door.
Surrounding the hardscapes, native and sustainable plantings frame the space, adding layers of color, texture, and year-round interest. This thoughtful combination of materials, patterns, and plantings transforms the entryway into a truly grand and welcoming experience.

Finally, the design incorporated a seamless connection between the courtyard and the front steps to amplify the sense of arrival and unify the space.
Despite these complexities, the result is a stunning entryway that feels grand yet welcoming, elevating the home’s curb appeal and functionality.
